Eurosuole recovers energy: an absorption chiller was installed to complete their trigeneration system

Cooling for free is now possible: a LiBr absorption chiller is able to cool using hot water coming from endothermic motors.

Eurosuole recovers energy: an absorption chiller was installed to complete their trigeneration system

In order to exploit to the full the energy sources at its disposal, Eurosuole decided to install a Trigeneration system which allows to produce electrical, thermal and frigorific energy at the same time. Here below is a scheme of the system:

This installation reduces the polluting emissions, in accordance to the Kioto Protocol and in compliance with the Italian regulations in force.

The system is composed of:
- cogenerators powered by natural gas with total thermal power input with fuel
- nominal electric and thermal energy.
The thermal recovery enables to recover heat from the cooling circuit of the motor and from the exhaust.

This recover is composed of:

1. plate exchanger for the heat recuperation from the cooling circuits from oil and from the first intercooler stage;
2. direct exchanger (motor cooling jackets) for the recuperation of the heat from the cooling jackets;
3. fumes pipe exchanger (recuperator) to recover the heat from the exhaust of the motor.

Thanks to the new trigeneration system (with n. 2 groups with combined production of electrical and thermal energy with cogenerative motor with natural gas) it is possible to supply a max power of:
thermal power: 1.202 kWe to the alternator’s clamps
thermal power: 1.466 kWt (of which 230 kWt for cooling)

The next scheme shows the trigenerative system at Eurosuole:

HOW ENERGY IS USED

The Trigeneration system recovers thermal energy for the heating of:
1. hot water for the absorption chiller for the production of frigorific energy (95°C);
2. hot water for industrial plants (77°C)
3. High Temperature diathermic oil circuit (220°C) for molding
4. Low temperature diathermic oil circuit (85°C) for PU system

The residual heat produced by the system is combined with a LiBr absorption chiller single effect, mod. SYBDH20 with 200 kW cooling power. This enables to produce cooling energy equal to 6%

It is worth noting that thanks to the Trigeneration system installed CO2 is 48% less (1.691 tCO2 /a, CO2 tons per year) and the energy consumption of natual gas is reduced of 765 tep in comparison to energy produced using separated means (boilers, generator sets, chillers).
The new system, moreover, reduces the electric drawing from the national network of more than 6.200.200 kWh per year, while respecting the rules in force for the emissions onto the atmosphere.
