Solar Cooling
- Though it seems a paradox, cooling using sun is possible.
The term solar cooling described any methods used to cool using solar energy.
Bowman (University of California, Berkley, 1966: 295) maintains that “the focused solar radiation can be used for producing mechanical power with heat engines” Nowadays solar cooling is achieved mainly thanks to the use of absorption chillers and this technology began to be commonly used thanks to the large commercialization of absorption chillers.
However, since sometimes the cost of a complete solar cooling installation is quite high, this way to cool is less common than more traditional cooling systems. Solar cooling is suitable for countries such as Italy, Spain, Turkey etc. which can enjoy much solar radiation all day long.
This enables us to take advantage of solar resources for free and having good payback on the initial investment.
