Chilled Water
- When starting a chiller, it takes 5 to 15 minutes from the time the chiller start sequence is initiated until the time the chiller starts to provide chilled water at the designed temperature.
During this time, the chilled water supply temperature rises above the desired set point.
If chilled water temperature is critical and this deviation in unacceptable, the method to correct this problem is to provide the chillers with a bypass that runs from the chiller discharge to the primary pump suction header return.'
This is the definition given by Arthur A. Bell in HVAC, Equations, Data and Rules of Thumb (McGrawhill, 2008).
Chilled water is used to cool buildings such as hospitals, hotels, restaurant etc. where there is the need to control many rooms separately.
Unlike traditional systems, chilled water used to cool is not harmful for the environment since it does not contain refrigerants.
