Absorption chiller “package” version with biomass boiler, a case history

A system which grants an energetic independence and high savings thanks to the combination of an absorption chiller and a biomass boiler

In order to optimize the managing costs and to lower the polluting emissions Systema S.p.A. is active on the market with its products and cooperates with professionals and energy managers. The recuperation of the heat produced by exhausts, productive cycles is then extremely important. Together with the full exploitation of the renewable energy (sun, biomass etc.) the recuperation of heat otherwise dispersed onto the atmosphere allows high savings. The system described here below was installed in a company producing furniture and the main characters of this important reference are a LiBr absorption chiller and a biomass boiler.

Main components of the system:

  • 1 MW biomass boiler. The boiler is powered all year round by the waste of the production cycle of furniture;
  • 350 kW absorption chiller supplied by Systema S.p.A. in “package” version, COP= 0,70




Features of the absorption chiller

Chilled water
  • inlet water temperature: 12°C
  • outlet water temperature: 6°C
  • flowrate m3/h: 50,2
  • nominal temperature inlet cooling water: 31,5°C
  • nominal temperature outlet cooling water: 26°C 

Cooling water
  • nominal temperature of the inlet feeding water: 90°C
  • flowrate m3/h: 29,6°C

The boiler supplies heating and hot sanitary water during winter. In summer, on the other hand, it feeds the absorption chiller which in turn takes care of cooling.
